What is it
Hyalofemme is a hormone free, clear, odourless gel formulated with Hydeal-DTM to provide you with quick, long lasting relief from the burning, itching and irritation associated with vaginal dryness.
Hydeal-DTM is a unique formulation of sodium hyaluronate. Sodium hyaluronate is a natural molecule, produced by your body in hydration and repair of tissues. Sodium hyaluronate has long been trusted by healthcare professionals, and has excellent hydrating properties.
Studies have shown that Hyalofemme quickly and significantly reduces symptoms of burning, itching and irritation associated with vaginal dryness, when it is applied just once every three days. Unlike a lubricant, it can provide lasting hydration, which means you don’t have to apply it so frequently. Because it’s hormone free, Hyalofemme can be used by patients for whom hormonal products are not recommended, and can provide added benefit for those already using hormonal products.
Unlike some other vaginal moisturisers, Hyalofemme does not smell, discolour or result in messy lumps and discharge, even when it is used in the long term. In fact, after using the product for 30 days, nearly 80% of women reported feeling absolutely no messy sensation, and 100% of women reported no bad smells, even though only 37% could say this at the start of the trial.
Hyalofemme is less expensive to buy over the counter than the leading vaginal moisturiser. Hyalofemme is now also reimbursable on the NHS.
Comes in a 30g tube, with a convenient re-usable applicator.
Vaginal Dryness and the Menopause
After the menopause, it is estimated that one in two women will suffer from vaginal dryness. According to the International Menopause Society’s 2010 ‘recommendations for the management of postmenopausal vaginal atrophy’, only one in four of those women will seek help from a healthcare professional.
Women suffering from vaginal dryness can find sexual activity painful, and even day to day tasks such as walking or standing can be uncomfortable. A healthy vagina is very important to a woman’s sense of wellbeing and if left untreated it can get worse, and significantly impact her quality of life and sexual health.
So why aren’t women seeking treatment?
A UK survey of women aged 55-85 years (n=2045) found that in response to a question on vaginal dryness:
42% did not seek treatment as in their view it was not important
13% think it is something they should put up with
10% were too embarrassed to discuss the problem with their doctor
36% preferred to seek non prescription treatments
Hyalofemme is a hormone free, non prescription moisturiser, which can provide long lasting relief from the discomfort of vaginal dryness.
Hormones and vaginal dryness
Reduced levels of estrogen can cause vaginal dryness. When hormone levels are reduced, so is the amount of vaginal fluid secreted. This, combined with other hormonal effects such as an altered vaginal PH, reduced blood flow to the vaginal tissues and changes to the lining of the vagina, or ‘epithelium’, can result in discomfort such as burning and itching.
Urinary tract health is also related to vaginal health, and women suffering from vaginal dryness are often susceptible to urinary tract infections among others. Click here for information on urinary tract infections such as cystitis.
Directions
Screw the applicator firmly onto the tube nozzle.
Squeeze the tube to fill the applicator up to the stop.
Unscrew the applicator from the tube and insert it into the vagina while assuming a crouching or supine position.
Push the plunger until all the gel has been expelled.
After use push the plunger in order to expel it from the cannula. Rinse away any residual gel, apply a disinfectant and then rinse thoroughly. Drain away any drops of water. Insert the plunger back into the cannula.
Keep the applicator in the box until next use.
It is advisable to expel a small amount of gel from the applicator before use, so that the tip is lubricated before being introduced into the vagina.
Warnings
A normal level of vaginal discharge is the natural result of your body shedding unwanted cells. After using Hyalofemme, some women have reported experiencing a white, lumpy discharge. This is perfectly normal and is just a combination of Hyalofemme® and dead cells. Usually the greater the initial dryness, the more dead cells and debris will come away in the initial stages of use. This will improve and eventually disappear as moisture is regained. If the discharge has an unpleasant odour or colour this may be evidence of a pre-existing vaginal infection so you should consult your doctor.
None of the ingredients in Hyalofemme can cause vaginal infections. In fact the pH reduction is more likely to act as a prevention to infection. However a sudden change in the vaginal environment may reveal an underlying infection which has not yet produced clinical signs.
After pregnancy, the body needs time to get back to normal. Many lactating mothers will experience vaginal dryness and may wish to use Hyalofemme. We do suggest waiting 6 weeks after a natural birth (after your 6 week or postnatal check) before using Hyalofemme® and ALWAYS under the guidance of your health professional.
Following a hysterectomy we recommend that you seek advice from your gynaecologist or health professional as to when you can begin using Hyalofemme.
During pregnancy we recommend that you seek advice from your gynaecologist or health professional as to when you can begin using Hyalofemme.
